More about the Content Management System (CMS)
A website which makes use of a Content Management System is one that allows the user to easily manage the content and structure of their website through the browser. As websites have evolved over the years, so has our understanding of what makes a good CMS and the features required. A CMS nowadays is much more than a content editor and file manager, it is a true back-end administration site equipping the user with the tools and control to manage their own site in a friendly environment.
A CMS solution today really does cater for all because of its scalable nature making it a good choice for websites of any shape or size, from small scale personal websites to large corporate sites. Setting up a CMS for a small website will give you the benefit of easy updates while providing you with the facilities to allow the website to grow to its full potential. On the other hand, a large website will see you get the best out of the CMS and the advanced features.
One of the key advantages of CMS, however, is the fact it is targeted at you, the end user. Thereby, requiring almost no technical skills or know-how to manage your entire website.
Here at Light Speed IT Solutions, we use Sitefinity CMS and below are just some of the features it provides.
- Workflow Engine. Allows a process of work flow to be defined ensuring content passes through the process of approval before going live.
- Versioning. Site content histories are kept allowing users to roll back and compare versions while also serving as an important safety net.
- Multi-lingual Content Integration. Providing the ability to create and maintain content in multiple languages.
- Intuitive Drag and Drop Page Editing combined with a WYSIWIG editor & spell-checker.
- Upload files including images, documents, video and more.
- Built-in applications in the form of forums, blogs, galleries, polls and more.
- Built-in support for building accessible and complaint web pages.
- Content Syndication (RSS) provides a means to easily feed website content as RSS data.
This is by no means an exhausted list of features, but highlights what is expected and why we use Sitefinity as our CMS of choice.
